Vacation in Colorado

Over the Fourth of July we spent a week in Southfork, Colorado camping with Mom and Dad. This was our first camping trip with the boys--they LOVED it! Both of them were great campers and Mason really liked the tent. It was too cold for Max in the tent, so he got to rough it with Grandma and Pa in the camper. After the Fourth, Jacob had to come back to Texas, but the boys and I spent another week driving home with mom and dad. Three adults and two kids in one small camper made for some interesting moments, but we all had a ball and can't wait to go again next year!We had barely started on our trip when Mason found his dream come true!Mason discovered fishing while on vacation. Pa had a reel all set up for him. He even had his gum boots on! This river was right behind our tent. It was so relaxing to listen to the river run all night.

Another of Mason's favorite things--snow in July! We're lucky if we get snow in January here, so he took advantage of the snow and threw snowballs at mom.
Hiking was another activity the boys discovered while in Colorado. It was great for Mason because it let him work out some energy, making for better naps. Max, however, turned out to be quite a load on those long hikes. He thought it was great, but whoever was carrying that extra 30 pounds was wishing for a shorter walk!
While hiking the falls, we found a place where we could crawl down right to the bottom. Mason loves rock climbing as much as I do!

After we left Southfork, we drove to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Dad had always wanted to go and it was a short drive. Mason loved playing in Medano creek (that's him bent over in the red hat). Mason became a Junior Ranger here. It's a great program for kids of all ages to learn more about National Parks. After finishing the required activities (which included a hike for Mom, Grandma, and Pa--carrying Max, of course!) he got sworn in by the park ranger and got a badge. He is very proud of his accomplishment!

After the Great Sand Dunes, we drove to Salida, CO. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The camper was backed right up to the river. The boys spent hours playing in the dirt and throwing rocks in the river.

Summer Fun

We are so blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives! Jacob's former assistant, Miss Paula, has always been very good to our boys and they completely love her too! She took care of Max for us last spring while I was at work. He got completely spoiled--exactly what he needed =) Last week she sent home this pool with Jacob for the boys. Of course, the first thing Saturday morning they wanted to get it out. It's really cool and they had a ton of fun with it!

Mason really liked the tree, but Max wasn't too sure what to think of it.
Max decided a joy ride in Daddy's car was a good idea.

I tried to convince Mason that he was too big for the slide--I obviously wasn't successful! The goggles are courtesy of Miss Paula, too, and Mason was sure he needed them in two inches of water =)
